COUNSELLING SERVICES
I WORK WITH ADULTS, TEENAGERS AND CHILDREN
There are times when we all simply need support and understanding from someone other than our close friends and family.
Having counselling and psychotherapy does not necessarily mean that you may be in crisis, it might just be that you are in a place where you need to have some space to talk, in safe, secure and confidential surroundings, with someone who listens carefully to you, where there is no judgement or alternative agenda, only understanding.
Face to face or online
Sessions can help give you a chance to think, express yourself and if needed, just to be and gain some much needed space. To help you explore, in a confidential environment with warmth and empathy, and move towards a better relationship with yourself.
For children and some adults, this can sometimes be difficult to accomplish through talking alone so using my experience in utilising more creative methods of therapy I can offer a way to express your feelings and explore difficulties and your history creatively if this makes more sense to you.
Children often find this approach most helpful, as it is more gentle and can tap into a different set of resources.
WHAT AREAS CAN I HELP WITH?
- Abuse/Trauma/Developmental Trauma
- Adoption (individuals, families & children)
- Bereavement and loss (including divorce, separation, employment and health related loss)

- Caring or difficulties relating to health, disability or life transitions

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
After your initial enquiry, I would send you the therapeutic contract, privacy policy and GDPR statement so you had time to review these before deciding to book in.
We would then book in a shorter reduced price session to allow you come and spend some time together thinking about your goals, answering any questions you may have and getting to know each other a little to see if you felt comfortable.
There is no obligation to book any further sessions from here, if you were happy we would then book our first session and complete the paperwork I had already sent you.
From there we would agree each week if you wish to continue with sessions. Each session would be about what you wanted to bring and discuss, and we would regularly check in together to review our work.
TYPES OF COUNSELLING SESSION AVAILABLE
Face to Face
Face to face is perhaps the most common way of attending sessions and I welcome you to come to my therapy room; a warm, safe, and comfortable space where I work with you to help and support you in your own understanding of the difficulties you may be dealing with. Here I will work with you to help you make your own choices about what will be best for you.
Online
At Driftwood an online session, delivered by Zoom, will work the same in principle as face-to-face. Online counselling can allow for flexibility and often, it can eliminate issues relating to area and travel when choosing a therapist. It can be helpful if you have a health condition, disability or cannot attend in person.
Telephone
Like an online session, an individual session by telephone can offer an alternative option. With both online and telephone sessions, these can feel helpful if you are currently dealing with profound anxiety and find it difficult to leave home, or meet with someone face to face, or simply if life just means you don’t have the time for face to face sessions.
